On this week's episode of Devil's Trap podcast, we say goodbye to Asmodeus ugly.
Speaker B:Ass suit and hello to a fresh scented Lucifer.
Speaker B:Let's do this.
Speaker A:Welcome to this week's episode of Devil's Trap podcast.
Speaker A:I'm Diana.
Speaker B:I'm Liz.
Speaker A:And this week we're going to talk about season 13, episode 18, bring them back Alive.
Speaker B:I mean, it's better than bringing them back down dead.
Speaker A:I mean it seems like a good goal.
Speaker B:It's not like this is a catchphrase or anything, is it?
Speaker B:I mean, I guess like it's sort of a thing that people say, right?
Speaker B:I guess.
Speaker A:Is it.
Speaker B:Is it a phrase?
Speaker A:I think kind of.
Speaker B:It just doesn't feel like a very popular one.
Speaker B:I don't know, but I agree it or it sound, it sounds like something that, you know, maybe you would say like as you're prepping during a football game or something.
Speaker B:Bring them back alive August.
Speaker B:But no, you.
Speaker B:During a football game they get 10 got dead.
Speaker B:I don't.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:I don't think the goal is to have dead people at the, at a sporting event though.
Speaker A:I don't know, it's.
Speaker A:It's a weird name.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:But you know, they get really violent when they do those pep talks.
Speaker B:We're gonna.
Speaker B:Gonna murder them.
Speaker B:It's like, well, that's a, you know, 12 year old boy maybe.
Speaker B:Don't.
Speaker A:Sorry.
Speaker B:I don't know why I'm thinking about peewee football.
Speaker B:I know it is that season.
Speaker A:Friday night lights are happening.
Speaker B:Some mom, some mom in a class somewhere or an 8i or overheard in a grocery store or something.
Speaker B:Insurance rubbed off on me.
Speaker A:That's probably true.
Speaker A:We are in Texas.
Speaker A:It is, it is football season.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Somewhere there's just a mom running back and forth, picking up her son's from his football practice, getting his head bashed in.
Speaker A:I mean helmet bashed in.
Speaker A:But yeah, hopefully.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Even with, you know.
Speaker A:Yeah, it's.
Speaker B:It's a thing.
Speaker B:Anyway.
Speaker B:So what have you been up to?
Speaker A:Besides not those.
Speaker A:Luckily.
Speaker A:I think I. Oh, I went to the State Fair of Texas.
Speaker A:I did my, my initial trip.
Speaker A:I always try to go more than once.
Speaker A:So this was my get in, get out hit the high points.
Speaker A:By high points, that means my priorities.
Speaker A:So I definitely got my corn dog from Fletcher's and I got my pick my selfie with big text and then I got some fun samples and then I had one of the new items of the year which is called Twinkle Twinkle Brisket Star, which is a Twinkie stuffed with brisket and jalapenos, deep fried with a drizzle of raspberry jam and bacon on bits on.
Speaker A:Was not as Twinkie as you would expect, which was good because it would have been gross.
Speaker A:It tasted kind of like a sweet cornbread.
Speaker A:And it was.
Speaker A:It was pretty tasty, actually.
Speaker A:I was surprised.
Speaker B:That sounds foul and disgusting.
Speaker A:Oh, it was like a sweet and savory kind of a thing.
Speaker A:It wasn't.
Speaker B:It sounds like an abomination.
Speaker B:It sounds like an abomination.
Speaker A:I'll tell you what sounds like an abomination.
Speaker A:That is my.
Speaker A:One of my favorite, favorite things at the fair that I got after that, which is cotton candy bacon.
Speaker A:And it's a big, thick piece of bacon on a stick, and they've.
Speaker A:It's cooked really good, and then they take it to the cotton candy machine, they wrap it in cotton candy, and you eat cotton candy and bacon in the same bite.
Speaker A:And I'm not a big, like, sweet and savory kind of person.
Speaker A:Like, mix it.
Speaker A:I'm more of a savory.
Speaker A:I mean, depending what it is.
Speaker A:But it was.
Speaker A:That's one of my favorites, cotton candy bacon.
Speaker B:The fair is just trying to kill everybody.
Speaker B:I think that's.
Speaker A:I mean, obviously, it's.
Speaker B:It's what its goal is.
Speaker B:It's just to, like, take Texas out.
Speaker B:You know, it sounds like a pot.
Speaker B:Like, maybe it's run by Russians or something.
Speaker B:I don't know.
Speaker B:Maybe it's a.
Speaker A:It was delicious.
Speaker A:That's what I know.
Speaker A:My cotton candy bacon was amazing.
Speaker A:And my Fleischer's corn dog was amazing.
Speaker A:And then I. I ate an apple.
Speaker A:They had apples, too, so I had fruit.
Speaker A:That help.
Speaker A:That counts, right?
Speaker B:And why did you eat an apple?
Speaker A:Because they were giving away apples.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:It was free.
Speaker B:That wasn't like.
Speaker B:You didn't, like, go, like, I'm gonna buy an apple.
Speaker B:It's a strange thing to buy.
Speaker B:Like, I was like, just like, you chose to get it.
Speaker B:A free apple makes.
Speaker A:You know, there's a free apple.
Speaker A:You're like, yeah, I'll eat an apple.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:Like, I feel like it balances out all the time.
Speaker B:It's not like, like, dipped in caramel.
Speaker B:I was like, why are you having an apple?
Speaker A:But, yeah, so now that's it.
Speaker A:And that.
Speaker A:Well, and then we had a little family time because my little brother, who's not so little, as has relocated back to Texas, and that's exciting.
Speaker A:So I got to see him and celebrate his birthday.
Speaker B:Fun.
Speaker A:Yeah, he's not little.
Speaker A:It's kind of hilarious.
Speaker B:No, he's a giant boy with.
Speaker B:With cats.
Speaker A:He is a giant boy with cats.
Speaker B:Can he have his cats?
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker A:I only got to meet one of them.
Speaker A:They're very shy, and they're adjusting to a household with two other cats in it and a lot of people, and they are not used to that.
Speaker B:That's a lot of cats.
Speaker A:They're used to an apartment with just him.
Speaker A:And now there's.
Speaker A:Now they're with my parents and two other cats.
Speaker A:So there's.
Speaker A:There's some poofy tails.
Speaker A:There's poofy tails and hissing going on over there.
Speaker A:So.
Speaker A:Yeah, sounds good.
Speaker A:How about you?
Speaker A:What have you been up to?
Speaker B:Nothing fun.
Speaker B:It's been.
Speaker B:I don't know.
Speaker B:I think there's a retrograde or something.
Speaker B:And, you know, it's just been a lot.
Speaker B:I mean, nothing like bad.
Speaker B:It's just.
Speaker B:It's a lot of, like, check a box of things that need to be do that need to be done that cost money and that are just like, adult things that are just annoying and expensive, like leaks and plumbers and.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Selling houses and all the things that you have to do in order to get.
Speaker B:To get a house on the market.
Speaker B:And then people telling you, like, this is what you need to do.
Speaker B:And like, my realtor, who I had, is really nice.
Speaker B:It's just, you know, like, you know, it's just like there's.
Speaker B:There are things that I know I have to do, and it's just like every time someone gives you more.
Speaker B:I think I'm just tired of people telling you what to do just like.
Speaker B:Or at least like, if you tell me what to do, can you please have a solution waiting on the other side of it, you know, like, if you're just like, this is something you need to do, like, and this is how you do it.
Speaker B:Here are the people who will help you.
Speaker B:This is how much it costs.
Speaker B:Because normally right now it feels like.
Speaker B:And this is just the adult world where it's, here's your problem.
Speaker B:Now figure out how to solve it.
Speaker B:You must go find all the people, track them all down, and then get them all coordinated, you know?
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:So this is what our AI bots should be doing for us, by the way.
Speaker B:This is, you know, not, like, doing weird sex stuff.
Speaker B:They should be, like, to handle feeling all this mundane crap.
Speaker B:So I can just go back to playing video games without feeling guilty.
Speaker B:I mean, I'm still gonna play video games.
Speaker B:I'm just gonna feel like.
Speaker B:And right now I feel guilty when I Do it.
Speaker B:So I would like anymore.
Speaker B:I don't want to feel guilty about it now.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:Reasonable.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:And I mean, I guess.
Speaker B:In other news, I just published season three of Lore and more, so you should go find that on.
Speaker B:It's available now on Amazon in Kindle edition.
Speaker B:The paperback should be available on Amazon in a couple of days.
Speaker B:The epub and the paperback for non Amazon peoples should hopefully be out in a couple of days.
Speaker B:I'm just waiting for a few things to go through, so.
Speaker B:But yeah, so season three, which was a short season, I've heard, like, it's fun going back to revisit these things.
Speaker B:There's stuff I forgot about.
Speaker B:Like.
Speaker B:Oh, yeah, There was only 16, 15 episodes for the season because there was the writer strike.
Speaker A:That's right.
Speaker A:That's crazy.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:Interesting.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:It's exciting, though.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Go check it out.
Speaker A:We've got the links out there, guys.
Speaker A:They're out there.
Speaker B:Lincoln Bio.
Speaker B:Lincoln Bio.
Speaker B:Or you can go find the link tree there.
Speaker B:And it'll take you to everything.
Speaker B:It'll take you to all the pages.
Speaker B:So, like, the bio page, which I don't know how you're listening or where you're at.
Speaker B:I'm like, I'm assuming.
Speaker B:I'm assuming you're on Instagram, and I'm not even on Instagram.
Speaker B:I'm like, that's where you go to find stuff.
Speaker B:I mean, anyhow.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:It just is.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker B:Anyhow.
Speaker B:All right, so we're gonna talk about bringing back Alive, which, if I've already bitched about the title and season 13, episode 18.
Speaker B: ,: Speaker B:And we saw him do this season, episode 11, breakdown.
Speaker B:And it was written by Brad Buckner and Eugenie Ross Lemming.
Speaker B:And they've done a bunch this season, as usual.
Speaker B:They did the Rising sun, they did War of the World, and they did Devil's Bargain.
Speaker B:So in our short recap, Gabriel is alive, Mary and Jack are in Apocalypse Land.
Speaker B:Catch brought them Gabriel.
Speaker B:They opened the rift.
Speaker B:Boom.
Speaker A:And Sam stayed behind.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Dean and Catch go through or pop through the rift.
Speaker A:And they are in a snowy place, which doesn't.
Speaker B:And they landed like superheroes.
Speaker B:Did you notice that, like, they both kind of, like, did the loop, like Crouch Landing, which I thought was kind of funny.
Speaker A:It was, but it's, like, snowy and doesn't look quite like the Apocalypse World we've seen before.
Speaker A:It's very wooded as well.
Speaker B:It seems like a different place than they were before.
Speaker B:And you Know that it looks like, I don't know, like, Vancouver.
Speaker B:And it looks like you're like.
Speaker B:It's.
Speaker B:There is life there, which is like, the snows look like it's just covering, like, actual trees as opposed to, like, the barren apocalypse land.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:So it just looks like winter in Vancouver.
Speaker B:So maybe not the best apocalypse world right here, but.
Speaker B:Okay, let's go.
Speaker A:And Dean's like, cool, now, Catch, you can just run off now.
Speaker A:Dean's gonna figure out where the hell he is and figure out his own problem.
Speaker A:And Catch is like, well, I can help you, though.
Speaker A:And I owe Mary that at least,.
Speaker B:Basically, after all the horrible things that I did to her, both with my penis and without.
Speaker B:And Dean says, then she shot him.
Speaker B:And then she shot him in the face.
Speaker B:And Dean says, if, you know, if Mary sees him, she's probably gonna shoot him in the face again, so maybe he shouldn't see Mar.
Speaker B:Catch pleads his case, and Dean just kind of accepts him as backup.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:And then while they're walking through these woods, there's a random corpse tied to a tree with barbed wire, like, by itself.
Speaker B:It's very random, but, yeah, sometimes that happens in the forest, I guess.
Speaker A:Well, they hear voices, and there's a group of angel soldiers walking on a bridge with prisoners.
Speaker A:So they go, they hide and listen, and basically they hear that.
Speaker A:That they're going to be.
Speaker A:These.
Speaker A:These people are going to be executed for high crimes against Michael.
Speaker B:So when I took my notes for this, I put for high crimes.
Speaker B:And apparently the word is fomenting rebellion against the archangel a Michael.
Speaker B:And I thought it was fermenting rebellion, but apparently it's not.
Speaker B:Apparently that's a different word.
Speaker B:And it is.
Speaker B:I just thought I would point that out, that they are not fermenting a rebellion.
Speaker B:Like, it's a pickle.
Speaker B:Although that, I think is delicious.
Speaker B:So that's what they're doing.
Speaker B:And these prisoners are going to be executed, and they just start smiting people.
Speaker B:And we're like, oh, yeah, these angel dicks.
Speaker B:And Dean wants to interfere, and Catch stops him.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:And then they take the hood off of the third prisoner, and they pause.
Speaker A:The angels pause.
Speaker A:And who is it?
Speaker A:It's Apocalypse World.
Speaker A:Charlie.
Speaker A:Holy.
Speaker A:Oh, my.
Speaker B:Chuck, it's Charlie.
Speaker B:That's so weird.
Speaker B:That's so strange.
Speaker B:And.
Speaker B:But apparently she's kind of like the other Charlie, because the angel.
Speaker B:Because she's important here.
Speaker B:And the angel commander says that she's not the normal human gom and she's part of the rebellion inner circle.
Speaker B:And she's met with the Nephilim and the other World of Mary, which means, like.
Speaker B:Okay, so she's like.
Speaker B:Now she's entangled.
Speaker B:She's met, married.
Speaker B:She's met Jack.
Speaker B:That's pretty crazy.
Speaker B:And so they're like.
Speaker B:They're not gonna kill her, which means she gets to live.
Speaker B:And Michael's going to want to interrogate her.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:And she talks and about how the rebellion's gonna win and she is going to grind his feathers into dust.
Speaker A:And then they flop away with her.
Speaker B:Yeah, away.
Speaker B:And we go to the bunker where Cass is reasonably upset that Dean has gone to Apocalypse Land.
Speaker B:Not by himself, but with Catch.
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:He's not thrilled, but Sam's like, oh, we gotta take care of Gabriel.
Speaker A:And so they go to Gabriel's room, and Sam is carrying this plate like it's a plate of food with a little metal cover on it.
Speaker A:And I'm like, what is happening here?
Speaker A:But anyway, so.
Speaker A:But they open the door and Gabriel is cowering in the corner of a room because of his years of torture.
Speaker A:He is that broken, even though we know his lips aren't sewn together anymore.
Speaker A:But he ain't talking.
Speaker A:And he is just hiding in the corner of a room.
Speaker A:So they help him to the bed, and Sam's trying to talk to him.
Speaker A:And they're like, he doesn't remember.
Speaker A:And anyways.
Speaker A:And so stuff.
Speaker A:Sam's trying to remind him about how he sent them a video that gave them the porn.
Speaker A:Well, that.
Speaker B:And then he leaves that part out.
Speaker B:I'm like.
Speaker B:He said in the video.
Speaker B:You said him porn?
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker B:And I'm like, if anything's gonna make Gabriel, like, come alive.
Speaker B:And we'd be reminding him that that video had porn stars in it.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker B:Yeah, so.
Speaker B:But.
Speaker B:So he takes out his platter.
Speaker A:Yeah, he's got his platter.
Speaker A:He uncovers it.
Speaker A:Not food.
Speaker A:It is a vial of Gabriel's face that Catch brought along.
Speaker A:And they offer it to him.
Speaker A:And.
Speaker A:And Gabriel resists.
Speaker A:So Sam's like.
Speaker A:And.
Speaker A:And, like.
Speaker A:Sam's trying to, like, hold it to his mouth.
Speaker A:And I like that.
Speaker A:Cass says he's not gonna open up and let the Choo Choo in.
Speaker B:And Cass thinks he's gonna need some covert coercion to eat his grace.
Speaker B:And Gabriel's worse than a cat with a pill and just ends up in a corner.
Speaker B:No, I'm not eating.
Speaker B:I'm not eating this.
Speaker B:And we go from there to heaven.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Where Lucifer is sitting on the floor playing cards by himself.
Speaker A:And Joe comes In.
Speaker A:And she's kind of annoyed.
Speaker A:She's like, you should be doing kingly things.
Speaker A:And.
Speaker A:And he's like, oh, I've just got my throne.
Speaker A:I'm happy.
Speaker A:I'm available to be worshiped.
Speaker A:And she's like, I thought you were gonna, like, make things better and, like, fix the things and, like, help the angels.
Speaker A:Wtf?
Speaker A:And then Duma enters, and she's like, lucifer asks Joe if you know, and tells Joe she should be happier being the.
Speaker A:Basically the first lady of Heaven.
Speaker A:And so Duma's got her report, though she is not intervening in this conversation, that they have been.
Speaker A:The limited number of angels they have.
Speaker A:Are scanning the earth for the planet, for Jack, but they just don't have the manpower to do it well.
Speaker A:And Lucifer's like, I don't care.
Speaker A:That's a priority.
Speaker A:And Duma's, like, pissed, but she leaves.
Speaker B:Yeah, because he red eyes her, too.
Speaker B:Like, he's just like, remember I was.
Speaker B:Then he whines, and he gets no respect.
Speaker B:And Joe tells him that if he wants to be treated like a God, he should try acting like one.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:And then we cut to Asmodeus, and he now has found.
Speaker A:I thought these were called something else.
Speaker A:I looked it up, but they're.
Speaker A:They're the Chinese stress balls.
Speaker A:I thought that's what they were called.
Speaker A:It says online bow ding balls.
Speaker A:I looked it up, but because I remember clicky balls.
Speaker A:I thought the mall.
Speaker A:I thought the kiosk I worked at at the mall as a teenager might have sold these briefly.
Speaker B:So that's.
Speaker A:I was like, I remember those.
Speaker A:Yes, it was the 90s.
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker A:I worked at a kiosk at the mall because.
Speaker A:Because I was a mall rat.
Speaker A:But anyways, he's just spinning balls in his hand and talking about how he's pissed that.
Speaker A:That Gabriel's gone, but he's essentially his.
Speaker B:Blood brother at this point.
Speaker A:So you got to say blood again.
Speaker A:I thought you would be happy about that.
Speaker B:Yes, he's still.
Speaker B:He's still being a Blood Blood dude.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker B:So we go to Apocalypse World, and the Catch and Dean are walking through the st.
Speaker B:The snow.
Speaker B:And Dean is very much being, like, a bul.
Speaker B:Catches, being a little more stealthy, and he's kind of, like, disappearing through the trees, and they fight about that.
Speaker B:And then Dean argues that they need Charlie because she's seen the camp where Mary is.
Speaker B:But catches.
Speaker B:Look, I'm like, oh, wait.
Speaker B:Like, I think there's something, like, more personal going on here.
Speaker B:And he disappears.
Speaker B:Again.
Speaker B:And this time though, Dean gets shot by somebody in the woods.
Speaker A:Yeah, he gets freaking shot in the shoulder.
Speaker A:And then this dude zip tying him.
Speaker A:But luckily Catch intervenes and tackled them.
Speaker A:And he's gonna ask, where are you gonna take Dean?
Speaker A:And the guy's like.
Speaker A:The guy actually overpowers Catch though.
Speaker A:And so then Dean shoots his gun in the air to break up the fight.
Speaker A:And like.
Speaker A:Yeah, what?
Speaker A:Where were you gonna take me?
Speaker A:And the guy won't answer, so they shoot him in the leg.
Speaker A:And finally the dude's like, oh, the silo.
Speaker A:That's where the prisoner of war camp is.
Speaker A:It's like four to five hour walk from here.
Speaker A:As a reminder, Catch and Dane only have 24 hours to get back through the rift.
Speaker A:So that's a lot of time of it.
Speaker B:Yeah, it is convenient though that.
Speaker B:I mean it is a lot of time, but also kind of lucky because the earth is big.
Speaker B:And you never know like where the angels could be flapping people to.
Speaker B:They could be flapping them much farther than four or five hours away.
Speaker A:True.
Speaker B:So Dean punches this guy.
Speaker B:And we go back to the bunker where Gabriel has decorated his room.
Speaker A:Yeah, the walls are covered in Enochian.
Speaker A:And Castiel says it's the story of his quote, death.
Speaker A:And so.
Speaker A:Yeah, anyway, so there he starts telling the story about how, you know, his brother had his double or his brother had double my brain and half.
Speaker A:Or had my brawn and half my brain.
Speaker A:He's talking about Lucifer.
Speaker A:And basically that how Lucifer was confused about the real Gabriel versus the counterfeit version of him.
Speaker A:And he killed the fake.
Speaker A:So everyone believed Gabriel was gone and he was so happy to be free that he ran off.
Speaker A:Because he was no longer had an obligation to God, to heaven or to mankind.
Speaker A:So he went to Monte Carlo to shack up with porn stars.
Speaker A:You were right.
Speaker A:Porn stars are the answer for Gabriel.
Speaker B:And he goes on about that for a while.
Speaker B:And then there is there.
Speaker B:There was the Asmodeus.
Speaker B:Capture and feeding on his grace.
Speaker A:And apparently Asmodeus was the weakest prince of hell.
Speaker A:And now he's one of the strongest because of that.
Speaker B:Yeah, because he's been.
Speaker B:I don't know.
Speaker B:What you.
Speaker B:Banging.
Speaker A:Begging.
Speaker B:His grace.
Speaker B:Yeah, that sounds.
Speaker B:But Sam.
Speaker B:Yeah, Sam.
Speaker B:Just wants to know also why Gabriel isn't talking and what.
Speaker B:You know, maybe he thinks it's safer that way.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:So we cut back to heaven and Lucifer has got a new suit and some shiny shoes and he is gonna put on his shades and he's gonna be ready to listen to Some prayers.
Speaker A:And he sits in his throne and we get all these voices.
Speaker A:And then he is irritated immediately.
Speaker A:And.
Speaker A:Except for the one that cuts through.
Speaker A:Yeah, except for one that cuts through where he can hear the voices of an exorcism taking place.
Speaker A:And so we cut to a bedroom where a chick looks very exorcismy by saying that.
Speaker A:I mean, like.
Speaker A:Like the movie with, like, the gross face and, like, sores and all the things.
Speaker A:And she's yelling terrible things at a two priests.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:And one of the priests is yelling in Latin.
Speaker B:And then the other priest, Father Davis, is talking in English and, you know, some of the things that he's calling for.
Speaker B:He's calling for St. Michael the Archangel to defend us, which I think is kind of funny.
Speaker B:And then the demon tells Father Davis not to get holier than.
Speaker B:How holier than thou.
Speaker B:Because if he.
Speaker B:He has a cam girl addiction.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Oh, oops.
Speaker A:And then the possessed thing person sees Lucifer and says, oh, crap.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:And well.
Speaker B:And so Father Davis says, be gone, Satan.
Speaker B:You shall no more dare to deceive the human race.
Speaker B:And we're going to talk about begoning Satan.
Speaker B:And this is lore.
Speaker B:And this week's lore comes actually is inspired from the Supernatural wiki, where it was noted that Father Davis initiated the exorcism with the phrase Vade retro Satana, which, besides sounding like a black metal album, translates to begone Satan or step back, Satan, or maybe in more modern terms, not today Satan in supernatural lore.
Speaker B:Dean attempted to use this exorcism in season three, episode 14, long distance call.
Speaker B:And according to the Internet's most accurate source of information, Wikipedia, Vade retro Santana is a medieval Christian formula for exorcism.
Speaker B:And the initials of the formula, vrsn SMB smq l I vb is often engraved around crucifixes or on St. Benedict medals.
Speaker B:So if you've ever seen, like, a crucifix or a medal that has those letters in a circle around it, that generally stands for the initials for this verse.
Speaker B:And translated to English from the ecclesiastical Latin, the verse says, may the cross be my holy light.
Speaker B:May the dragon never be my guide.
Speaker B:Be gone, Satan.
Speaker B:Never tip me with your vanities.
Speaker B:What you offer me is evil.
Speaker B:Drink the poison yourself.
Speaker B:So that.
Speaker A:Which is why they abbreviate it, because that wouldn't fit in a lot of medallions.
Speaker B:You couldn't.
Speaker B:You couldn't write that whole thing.
Speaker B:So they basically write the first letters of each of the words in Latin.
Speaker B:And that's what I ends up reading out so, but it doesn't become like a good acronym, like it's version river is not a good word, you know.
Speaker B:So the phrase va, and I'm probably saying this wrong, but vade retro satana.
Speaker B:It was in the 13th century Legend of the Devil's bridge at Sens, where an architect sold his soul to the devil, but subsequently regretted it and repented.
Speaker B:And he drove away the devil using the phrase along with holy water.
Speaker B: o, according to Wikipedia, in: Speaker B:And it was particularly true for St. Michael's Benedictine Abbey in Bavaria, where a search turned up crosses painted on the walls with the formula's initials.
Speaker B:And it wasn't until the verses were found in a manuscript in the abbey's library that the meaning of initials were understood.
Speaker B:The same formula was found in a 12th century Austrian manuscript which depicts Satan offering a drinking cup to St. Benedict, who keeps Satan at bay with a long cross, cross top staff with a red banner.
Speaker B:So he's got the stick and he's just like, you can't reach me.
Speaker B:Here's a stick in between us.
Speaker B:And below the staff is a single line of text.
Speaker B:And below are six lines of first, starting with vade retro satana.
Speaker B: So in: Speaker B:It's still included.
Speaker B: ncerning exorcism was made in: Speaker B:Oh boy, I'm not going to attempt to say this in Latin.
Speaker B:So in English it's of exorcisms and certain supplications.
Speaker B:And it was the last book to be revised following Vatican II and the proceeding.
Speaker B: in: Speaker A:Whoa.
Speaker B:So maybe it was time it got a little updated.
Speaker B: amended edition was issued in: Speaker B:The newest vision version includes a warning not to confuse mental health issues with demonic possession.
Speaker B:It also removes several descriptions of Satan and states that the devil is a spirit spirit without body, without color and without odor.
Speaker B:So Satan does not smell according to.
Speaker B:According to this, yes.
Speaker B: d by the Holy See in December: Speaker B:We discussed the frequently asked questions.
Speaker B:Three years ago when we talked about exorcisms and the Catholic Church, I almost did them again.
Speaker B:But thankfully, I confirmed my notes.
Speaker B:I was like, these sound really familiar.
Speaker A:I've done this before.
Speaker A:So.
Speaker B:In more recent exorcism news.
Speaker B:Let's talk about some recent exorcism news from an article by Dina Yellen for NorthJersey.com the Archdiocese of Newark has issued new guidelines for handling exorcism requests after several parish priests sought guidance for parishioners who wanted the right.
Speaker B:The guidelines tell priests that while they are to respond with compassion, they need to be cautious and to consider professional mental health for the person.
Speaker B:Document states that Cardinal Joseph Tobin, the Archbishop of Newark, has appointed a priest to serve as archdiocese exorcist.
Speaker B:The guidelines were issued in a memo which were sent to priests in the archdiocese and was.
Speaker B:And it was an email, and it was obtained by the record from a source in the clergy.
Speaker B:But I just like, imagine a priest's email where you're just like, you've got mail.
Speaker B:It's like new guidelines for exorcisms.
Speaker B:Because people keep asking to get exercise and it's becoming a thing.
Speaker A:I feel like that's also like when you know the rule about, like the small screen versus a big screen.
Speaker A:Have you seen that?
Speaker A:Like, where it's like, that's a.
Speaker A:That's a small screen activity versus a big screen.
Speaker A:I feel like an exorcism documents a big screen activity.
Speaker A:You have to pull the laptop out for that.
Speaker A:You can't read that one on your phone,.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker B:The Reverend John Chadwick, the Vicar General at the Archdiocese, said in a letter attached to the protocols that he had received several inquiries from parish priests regarding the possible need for the rite of exorcism.
Speaker B:He was concerned for the well being of those who may be struggling with what they believe to be demonic possession.
Speaker B:Under the protocols, a person seeking an exorcism should first be counseled by a local priest.
Speaker B:Then that priest may determine that a psychological evaluation is warranted.
Speaker B:If the priest believes a person may be experiencing what the Church describes as extraordinary demonic influence, the case should be referred to the Vicar General's office.
Speaker B:Office and the protocols stress that requesting an exorcism does not mean that one will be performed.
Speaker B:So just that you ask to get exercise doesn't mean the priest is going to do it for you.
Speaker B:Okay, you've got to pass some things.
Speaker B:They also say that anyone who asks for a priest for one must be met with compassion, careful listening, respect, regardless of whether their suffering is spiritual, psychological, or related to addiction.
Speaker B:The memo says, so that's nice.
Speaker B:Each case should also be handled discreetly the document says, recognizing that while many cases are rooted in mental health struggles, the possibility of spiritual affliction is real.
Speaker B:The memo describes exorcism as a pastoral ministry in which Christ's authority is invoked against what Catholics believe can be demonic forces.
Speaker B:So for many people experiencing what the church considers spiritual distress, the documents recommend ordinary religious practices rather than exorcism.
Speaker B:So they're kind of, I think they're saying, maybe slow your roll.
Speaker B:Maybe Anthony is inside of you.
Speaker B:You know, maybe they say, go to Sunday mass, try confession and communion first to try those things.
Speaker B:It also cautions against Ouija boards, tarot cards, fortune tellers and pagan rituals, describing them as occult practices that could cause spiritual harm.
Speaker A:Boo.
Speaker B:The fun things.
Speaker B:Always the fun things.
Speaker B:So the Reverend John Cello, a Franciscan fire friar who has worked with the exorcism ministry in the Diocese of Milwaukee, has seen requests increase over the past five years.
Speaker B:In addition, there has been overall increased interest in the right.
Speaker B:So diocese are just trying to get on top of it and create a plan of action, he said.
Speaker B:So in another one in April, the Reverend Michael Maginot warned that evil demons from his past exorcisms may still exist at his former parish, St. Stephen Martyr Catholic Church in Maryville, Indiana.
Speaker B:Because the church was being sold, all the holy protections have been taken away.
Speaker B: t Catholic Priest ordained in: Speaker B:Oh, Gary, Indiana.
Speaker B:Sounds funny.
Speaker A:It does.
Speaker A:It's a very modern and specific sect of the Catholics that we're talking about.
Speaker B:It's the Diocese of Ted, you know, so the Diocese of Gary.
Speaker B:In his career, he has performed roughly 500 exorcisms, some of them in his rectory near the church, including 18 formally sanctioned by the Catholic Church.
Speaker B:He said.
Speaker B:So he did like over 400 that were not sanctioned by the church.
Speaker B:So were those like rogue exorcisms that he was doing?
Speaker B:I mean, yeah, so the priest says if the building was going to be used as a church, that would be different.
Speaker B:But I'm being told it is being sold to become a secular business for a mental health counseling center.
Speaker B:All of those vulnerable people could be in danger of existing demons that imagine.
Speaker B:No.
Speaker B:So then apparitioner goes on to argue that we believe as his father.
Speaker B:Imagine know that the real reason Saints and Stevens was closed has nothing to do with finances and pre shortages and everything to do with exorcisms.
Speaker B:That's what Jackie Swike, a lifetime parishioner at that church, said.
Speaker B:Father Maginot believes that publicity about this exorcism has created jealousy in the church, leading to St Stephen's being closed.
Speaker B:Why does the Catholic Church pretend that exorcisms don't exist and that local priests can't perform them?
Speaker B:To be Catholic is to believe in the supernatural.
Speaker B:Jesus expelled demons from people.
Speaker B:If a local priest wants to do the same, let him and don't take his church away.
Speaker B:She's very passionate.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker B:A STY spokesperson told nwi NWI Times reporter Jerry David the property sale adhered to church guidelines appropriately.
Speaker B:Exorcisms are not necessarily necessary for preparations to decommission and sell a church building.
Speaker B:The spokesperson said the Catholic Church's guidance for selling a former church building focuses on canonical civil processes, discernment with ecclesiastic, ecclesial subjects and proper handling removings of sacred furnishings.
Speaker B:Exorcism is not a general quote, unquote, cleanup.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:The spokesperson said when a church building is closed and sold, the process is not just a real estate transaction.
Speaker B:It involves canonical discernment about moving the building out of defined worship, removing, protecting what is sacred, and following strict rules for the sale of church goods.
Speaker B: ,: Speaker B:Sacred furnishings and items of important heritage are properly cared for, removed and stored for safeguarding by Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Parish, the diocese says.
Speaker B:I think that's just interesting.
Speaker B:I just never really thought about it, like, if you're moving a church, like all the things that they have to that the church is going to do before they like, oh, like, I guess you just don't like, pack up like your chalice and like, you've got to do some stuff.
Speaker B:Like it doesn't just go with a U Haul box like Mark's, like you'd like altar and then just find it.
Speaker B:It's just like there's some wine and some little brown pieces of bread and.
Speaker A:There's like plumbing rules and stuff like that in a Catholic church too.
Speaker A:And like, I don't know, there's different things they have to do.
Speaker A:So that's fascinating for a real estate transaction change.
Speaker B:And our final news piece about exorcisms from a June article in Slate by Molly Olmstead.
Speaker B:A Catholic priest got fired from his job as an exorcist because he claimed that UFOs are actually demons.
Speaker B:The priest, Monsignor Stephen Rossetti, worked as an exorcist for the Washington archdiocese for 15 years.
Speaker B:Rossetti, a licensed psychologist and exorcist, has led Hundreds of exorcism and deliverance sessions, according to the website of his exorcism focused non profit organization.
Speaker B:He also trains other people.
Speaker A:Very specific.
Speaker A:Non profit.
Speaker B:Yes it is.
Speaker B:He also trains other priests to be exorcists.
Speaker B:Recently, however, Rossetti's remit has included statements on UFOs.
Speaker B:As an exorcist, I wanted to raise that danger and that is that demons like to hide, Rossetti had said in a May 29 video posted on Facebook.
Speaker B:It's my personal belief that probably many, if not most of these UFO sightings are in fact demons.
Speaker B:Subsequently, the Catholic archbishop of Washington, D.C. announced that Rossetti had been removed from his position as exorcist, but he got to remain as a priest.
Speaker B:The archdiocese said in its statement that Rossetti's UFO theories gravely undermined the Church's very precise teaching on the devil, demons and exorcisms.
Speaker B:The church not only objected to the UFO thing, but also to Rossetti's role as a content creator.
Speaker B:He had 50,000 followers on Facebook and tick tock and $149,000 dollars, 149,000 followers on Instagram in June.
Speaker B:So this is.
Speaker B:Maybe we need to like start to get more followers and we need to start talking about more.
Speaker B:You up?
Speaker B:We already talk about UFOs and exorcism, so I, I guess we just need to talk about them together and maybe that'll increase our followers.
Speaker B:So Rossetti is a part of a small group of exorcist influencers because this is the timeline that we live in.
Speaker B:Father Carlos Martins has a podcast, the exorcist files, on YouTube, which is 40,000 followers.
Speaker B:Like and subscribe please.
Speaker B:And in it he takes the audience through his Battling the Ancient Serpent in many forms.
Speaker B:Olmsted calls these influencers celebrity exorcists and says that they wield a strong, loyal following which can pit them against more traditional church hierarchy.
Speaker B:Additionally, they are also sometimes political.
Speaker B:According to Andrew Chestnut, the Chair of Catholic Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University, pretty much all of the prominent American exorcists tend to have right wing politics and theology.
Speaker B:This is largely because exorcism as a modern practice has been shaped by evangelical influences.
Speaker B:The overwhelming majority of exorcisms today are done by Pentecostals.
Speaker B:These tend to be much more informal events than the Catholic exorcisms.
Speaker B:The idea of being beset by demons, Chess, it said, is a conservative evangelical one, and it has shaped these exorcist views.
Speaker B:Rossetti, however, doesn't fit into the political camp though, as he's Mainly talking about just demons.
Speaker B:He did write in UFOs.
Speaker B:He did write a statement on his blog asking forgiveness for any ways that I have not been faithful to the teachings of the Church's Magisterium, particularly in the cited videos on aliens and the demonic.
Speaker A:Well, it's very specific.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So UFOs may be demons, you know, or the Catholic Church would like him to stop saying that.
Speaker A:Correct.
Speaker A:That's the biggest thing.
Speaker A:Biggest takeaway.
Speaker B:The takeaway is the church.
Speaker B:This is like, dude, can you.
Speaker B:Can you.
Speaker B:But can we not.
Speaker B:Maybe not on tick tock.
Speaker B:Can you.
Speaker B:Can you.
Speaker B:Can you just not.
Speaker A:Yeah, yeah, that's a lot.
Speaker A:That's a lot.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:Well, the church is very specific about, like, what they'll identify as an.
Speaker A:As a case needing an exorcism.
Speaker A:So, like going and branching out into like demon or UFOs, it's like, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Speaker B:And saying that, that.
Speaker B:I mean, you're.
Speaker B:You're just throwing a whole nother thing into the punch bowl there.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:And now they're like, now we have to explain our saying.
Speaker B:I know they have stances on UFOs too.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker A:But it's, you know, it's connecting them now.
Speaker A:It's a totally different beast.
Speaker B:It's like, no, no, we can't.
Speaker B:We can't say that.
Speaker B:And we just got through the whole thing that Satan doesn't smell.
Speaker A:I know.
Speaker A:We just.
Speaker A:So he can't.
Speaker B:He can't be an alien.
Speaker B:We just got through the whole thing.
Speaker B:He just had an alien smell.
Speaker B:I mean, if aliens do smell, then they're not a demon.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker B:See, but according to supernatural demon smell, they stink.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Or like to say.
Speaker B:But okay, maybe the church.
Speaker B:The church didn't say that demons don't smell.
Speaker B:They said that the devil doesn't smell.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:And the devil, angels.
Speaker A:So you could say maybe angels don't have a scent either.
Speaker A:So that could make sense.
Speaker B:I was.
Speaker B:I was considerate.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:I don't think angels seem like they would be very smelly.
Speaker A:Oh, I wouldn't think so.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker B:Okay, let's get.
Speaker B:Let's get back.
Speaker B:That's where we've gone to.
Speaker B:So let's get back to our.
Speaker A:The unscented Satan and more.
Speaker A:All right.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker B:So this Lucifer, who I'm assuming smells probably smells nice.
Speaker B:I. I just feel like he, like at this point, like maybe now I'm not.
Speaker B:When he was like homeless Lucifer, but.
Speaker A:Like this, he spritzed some cologne with that suit.
Speaker B:I feel like he did Right.
Speaker B:So he is coming and he's pointing out that that is not Satan, but a demon named Anthony.
Speaker B:And Anthony's just like, oh, no, I've been caught.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:And they make him smoke out.
Speaker A:And the girl is perfectly back to normal and looks like a.
Speaker A:Like a normal young woman laying on the bed now.
Speaker A:And he just tells the priest, you're welcome.
Speaker A:And they're like, wait, who.
Speaker A:Who are you?
Speaker B:The priests are just not excited to meet Lucifer.
Speaker B:And especially when Lucifer tells him that he's sort of running heaven right now.
Speaker A:No, they don't like it.
Speaker A:And he's mad that his pops made him the fall guy.
Speaker A:And so they are throwing holy water and yelling at him about blasphemy.
Speaker A:And then he snaps his fingers and they.
Speaker A:They both poof into smoke and are gone.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So is that smiting them?
Speaker B:I don't know.
Speaker B:Is it like the opposite of smiting?
Speaker B:Because they go into smoke.
Speaker A:I think they're just gone.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:I wonder where they go, huh?
Speaker B:Do they go to the void?
Speaker B:What do these things happen?
Speaker B:What happens to those people?
Speaker B:Do they have a soul?
Speaker A:Huh.
Speaker B:So many supernatural things to ponder.
Speaker B:Back at Apocalypse World, Catch has this utility belt and then realizes that there are angel killing bullets, which he thinks are cool.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:And Catch comments on how bad Dean looks.
Speaker B:And Dean's just blowing him off.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:He's on the struggle bus, though.
Speaker A:And so just.
Speaker A:Catch just pivots and just starts prodding about who Charlie is.
Speaker A:It must be a girlfriend or something.
Speaker A:And Dean collapses onto the ground and has a fever.
Speaker A:So Catch finally gets to look at the wound where he was shot.
Speaker A:And.
Speaker A:And it looks like it is definitely poisoned.
Speaker B:It is more than a bullet wound.
Speaker B:And at first I was like, was it like a.
Speaker B:Like it was an angel bullet?
Speaker B:That was my first thought.
Speaker B:And then I was like, oh.
Speaker B:And then to explain that it was poison, But.
Speaker B:So in the bunker, Cass can't heal Gabriel because an angel can't heal an archangel because they don't work that way.
Speaker B:But he's just trying to get into his mind to maybe jolt him into thinking something, sinking some straight.
Speaker B:But he scares that he may be lost for good.
Speaker B:And Gabriel just stares off into the sweet, sweet void.
Speaker B:Just like void.
Speaker B:He just got that nice wall thing where you just know.
Speaker B:Like, he just.
Speaker B:He just went through and zoned out, writing, like, all over his wall for an hour about porn stars.
Speaker B:Now he's just in the void.
Speaker A:Well, Catch is going to explain to Dean why he.
Speaker A:What he's doing, because he thinks that the.
Speaker A:That he explains that there was a Men of Letters poison that they would use sometimes on bullets to slow down and eventually horribly kill their prey or whoever they were chasing.
Speaker A:And so he is making a rogue his own, like, road remedy of the treatment for that.
Speaker A:And I like that Dean calls out that Mental letters are such dicks.
Speaker B:Such dicks.
Speaker B:I mean.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So Catch puts the antidote in his wound.
Speaker B:And it's very.
Speaker B:Oh, what's the word I was trying to think of?
Speaker B:The pet.
Speaker B:It's not a.
Speaker B:It's not pastual.
Speaker B:If there's an old medieval word for it where they.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Eat him out.
Speaker B:And so.
Speaker B:But because it.
Speaker B:So it's like ground up.
Speaker B:Poultice.
Speaker B:That's the word.
Speaker B:So he puts.
Speaker B:Good.
Speaker B:That's a good one to pull out of your ass, Diana.
Speaker B:So he puts a pole.
Speaker B:It looks like a poultice.
Speaker B:And he puts that antidote into the wound.
Speaker A:Yeah, it looks like it hurts.
Speaker B:Apologizes for it hurting.
Speaker B:So we.
Speaker B:We're pretty sure it does.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:So Sam is gonna sit with Gabriel in.
Speaker A:In the bunker, and Sam is gonna give Gabriel a pep talk about, you know, digging himself out is hard, you know, but, you know, he realized that he didn't want to do this thing, but his family needed him.
Speaker A:And now he's.
Speaker A:This is his.
Speaker A:He's, you know, this is his life.
Speaker A:And he's gonna make the world better.
Speaker A:And your family needs you.
Speaker A:We need you.
Speaker A:We need you to help us.
Speaker A:And he references strippers in this.
Speaker A:In his speech to hookers.
Speaker A:Excuse me, in his speech to Gabriel.
Speaker B:We gotta get.
Speaker B:Which was which.
Speaker B:Which.
Speaker B:Which of the adult entertainment industry we are correctly talking about here.
Speaker A:So he says.
Speaker B:He says.
Speaker B:Who says?
Speaker B:Hookers?
Speaker A:And that's what snaps Gabriel out because he has to correct him to porn stars.
Speaker B:That is right.
Speaker B:Because hookers and Monte Carlo sound great, but your family need you.
Speaker B:And Gabriel just comes back to life with porn stars.
Speaker B:They were porn stars, Sam.
Speaker A:And his eyes glow.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Yay.
Speaker B:But unfortunately, when this happens, Osmodeus stops clicking his balls.
Speaker B:And he senses Gabriel.
Speaker A:He does.
Speaker A:So back in Apocalypse World, Dean and Catch are walking again.
Speaker A:And Dean's still struggling.
Speaker A:And Cat's like, you need to rest.
Speaker A:And Dean, of course, is just gonna talk like he does and then collapse like you're going to.
Speaker A:So Catch is still wanting to know what.
Speaker A:What's up with Charlie?
Speaker A:And he's like, you know, I.
Speaker A:We need to.
Speaker A:He's like, honestly, we should return home back through the rift and regroup and get a team and then come back.
Speaker A:That's what we should be doing.
Speaker A:And.
Speaker A:And Dean's like, Charlie won't give the.
Speaker B:Angels what they want.
Speaker A:They're gonna kill her.
Speaker A:And he's like.
Speaker A:And Catch points out that this is not Dean's Charlie.
Speaker A:This is Apocalypse World Charlie.
Speaker A:He doesn't know this person.
Speaker A:And he.
Speaker A:Dean finally explains that she was like a sister and was butchered because he couldn't get to her in time.
Speaker A:And that he failed her.
Speaker A:And then we get a flashback and it's sad.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:And it's like Charlie and Dean hugs.
Speaker B:And then she's dead in the bathroom.
Speaker B:Then I'm like, why the am I crying?
Speaker B:And just like.
Speaker B:He's like, ah, I don't want to cry.
Speaker B:I'm watching this.
Speaker B:And so then Dean wants to know about.
Speaker B:About Catch's story.
Speaker B:He isn't sharing.
Speaker B:And Catch just says that he's had many friends and colleagues who died on his watch, but he didn't try and save them because of duty.
Speaker B:And that's all rubbish.
Speaker B:And Dean reminds him that he does suck.
Speaker B:And Catches is like, well, maybe, you know, rescuing Charlie will wash him the stain off his hands.
Speaker B:And then Dean says, impossible and stupid.
Speaker B:You say that like it's a bad thing.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:And then we go off to rescue Charlie.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:So they're on the go and we cut to where Charlie is being interrogated.
Speaker A:They want to know the location and the number of bases that the rebels have.
Speaker A:And she's just gonna yell bite me at them over and over again, which is gonna get her not knock the out.
Speaker B:So I wear my bite me T shirt.
Speaker A:I like it.
Speaker A:I like it.
Speaker A:So back at the bunker, Gabriel is now down to take in that grace.
Speaker A:I guess they had more than one vial of it.
Speaker A:I don't know, it's confusing, but they had it.
Speaker A:No, it was one.
Speaker A:Just the one.
Speaker A:Okay, well, he's gonna take it down and he's not sure if it's helping.
Speaker A:But Sam's phone rings and Asmodeus call is calling.
Speaker A:And Sam just puts it right on speaker.
Speaker A:Doesn't know who's calling, doesn't know what's happening.
Speaker A:Just answers the phone and puts it on speaker.
Speaker A:It was just weird.
Speaker A:And basically it says that you all have something that belongs to me.
Speaker A:And Gabriel.
Speaker A:You can tell is freaked the out by this.
Speaker A:And he wants Gabriel back.
Speaker A:He's of no use in his current condition.
Speaker A:If you don't give him back, I'm gonna take him by force.
Speaker A:You've got 10 minutes.
Speaker A:That's it.
Speaker B:And I go back to Heaven, where Lucifer is throwing a tantrum that nothing is worth his talent.
Speaker B:Everything is worth flawed.
Speaker B:And God's propaganda machine has just spewed hatred across him for centuries.
Speaker B:But he's not going to give up the key.
Speaker B:He's got found the key to his bliss and it's fatherhood.
Speaker B:He's going to find Jack and they'll combine his powers and remake the world in Lucifer's inner image.
Speaker B:Then everyone's going to worship him.
Speaker B:And he thinks it's an awesome plan.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:And Joe's gonna mock him, as she should, because it is not a good plan.
Speaker A:And why she tells him that he should just make good on his promise to make angels or give their wing and give wings back to the existing angels.
Speaker A:And this is where Lucifer admits that he lied, that he cannot do either of those things.
Speaker A:And so Joe is like, just done now.
Speaker A:She's like, it's not anybody's propaganda or anybody else's fault.
Speaker A:You're.
Speaker A:And also, by the way, you're just afraid of finding your son and seeing contempt in his eyes when he looks at you.
Speaker A:You can't replace your father.
Speaker A:You can't create anything.
Speaker A:You might as well go back in the cage, Uburn.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Then Lucifer chokes her, and then she leaves him.
Speaker B:And I feel like it's like you don't have this anymore Lucifer moment, you know?
Speaker B:Like, you b.
Speaker B:Like, look at this ass, because you're not gonna get to touch it anymore.
Speaker B:I feel like she's saying something like that or she's walking out.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:So in the meantime, Catch and Dean have located this silo that.
Speaker A:That the.
Speaker A:The dude that shot him told them about.
Speaker A:And they see they've got guns ready.
Speaker A:They're gonna run up to the fence.
Speaker A:They are ready to ambush this camp.
Speaker A:And we see the same.
Speaker A:I. I call him the Captain.
Speaker A:That's not his commander.
Speaker A:Yeah, Commander.
Speaker A:At the time when I was making my notes, he was captain.
Speaker A:The commander has everybody lined up.
Speaker A:He's got a bunch of humans lined up.
Speaker A:And he is announcing that the resistance is being broken one by one.
Speaker A:And here's one of your leaders.
Speaker A:You're gonna watch her get executed and ties Charlie to a pole.
Speaker A:And she is convicted of high crimes and a traitor.
Speaker A:So.
Speaker A:And then this big dude comes out with like.
Speaker A:That's dressed in like, aviator crazy stuff and has a big sword.
Speaker A:It's just kind of confusing what's happening here.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:They're gonna be header, I guess.
Speaker B:The executioner.
Speaker A:I know.
Speaker A:It was just weird.
Speaker A:They were Smiting people before.
Speaker A:And now they're gonna do this, like, beheading with this big dude that's got, like, a leather helmet on.
Speaker A:Yeah, but Dean's got a grenade, and that makes everybody run when they throw it, so.
Speaker B:And then they come in shooting and some angels die.
Speaker B:And Dean, though, he frees Charlie, who wants to know who the hell Dean is, but there's just no time for that.
Speaker A:And.
Speaker A:But the commander does flap out, so he does get away.
Speaker A:So.
Speaker A:But.
Speaker A:Yeah, and a bunch of the human prisoners ran away, too, so a bunch of people got freed.
Speaker B:Yeah, that's good for that.
Speaker A:But back in the bunker, we have Gabriel rubbing his temples because he is distraught that Asmodeus is coming for him.
Speaker A:And Sam's like, oh, I upgraded all our bunker wards, but is that gonna be enough?
Speaker A:No one knows.
Speaker A:So they find out real fast when the lights flicker and all the red lights turn on for the alarms.
Speaker B:Yeah, there's just the red from the emergency lights and the sigils on the wall glowing.
Speaker B:And it's a really cool effect.
Speaker A:And my dog socket really liked it.
Speaker A:He was watching this scene intently with the Ritz.
Speaker A:I think it.
Speaker B:I think the colors.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:And so they go to the main room and demons attack.
Speaker B:And of course, they have angel blades.
Speaker A:And everybody does.
Speaker B:Everybody's got angel blade these days.
Speaker B:And then cast smites them.
Speaker A:Yep.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:And the.
Speaker A:Then Asmodeus is going to show up and be like, your ward suck.
Speaker A:And he wants Gabriel.
Speaker B:And he just flicks them with, like, a little bit of, like, his finger.
Speaker A:There's a flick and Sam and Cass are like, like, flung and stuck to the wall.
Speaker A:And Gabriel gets dragged out.
Speaker A:And Asmodeus is gonna punish Gabriel.
Speaker A:And you feel bad because he looks very upset, but.
Speaker A:And Asma is like, calling him son and how he's gonna.
Speaker A:He broke him and he's weak.
Speaker A:It's just really ick.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:But then when Asbedeus starts to kill Salmon Dean, it's finally enough to trigger Gabriel to grow his spine back.
Speaker B:And so he will, I guess his wings too, but.
Speaker B:So his wings are back now, and he's pissed.
Speaker B:And as the day is.
Speaker B:Lobs some kind of light ball at him, which he deflects.
Speaker A:Yeah, it was weird.
Speaker A:And then he's.
Speaker A:Then.
Speaker A:And he deflects it and he says, Gabriel is gonna say, I always hated that dumbass suit.
Speaker A:And I was like, so did Liz.
Speaker B:Dumbass suit.
Speaker B:And he burns it up as he burns up Asmodeus.
Speaker B:So that is the end of the.
Speaker B:The Knights.
Speaker B:The prince, princes.
Speaker B:Knights of Hell, Princess of hell.
Speaker A:Yeah, they're gone.
Speaker B:They are gone now.
Speaker B:No more.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:So Charlie is getting filled in on what's.
Speaker A:What.
Speaker A:What.
Speaker A:Who Dean is.
Speaker A:At this point, I get kind of.
Speaker A:And so they're.
Speaker A:They're walking and talking, and she's like, to recap, there's another world that's better without Michael in it, and there's another me, and we're friends.
Speaker A:This is like the short summary of what she's pieced together.
Speaker A:And Dean's like, I know it's a lot, but either way, I just need to.
Speaker B:And Dean wants.
Speaker B:Yeah, sorry, I just love.
Speaker B:Dean wants to know how.
Speaker B:Charlie wants to know how very they were.
Speaker B:And Dean's like, she was into chicks and.
Speaker B:And then Apocalypse World.
Speaker B:Charlie is like, I like her.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:And Dean's like, I need to know where the Nephilim and my mom are.
Speaker A:And she's like, wait, what?
Speaker A:That's your mom?
Speaker A:They're in Dayton, Ohio, by the way.
Speaker A:So.
Speaker A:But she just also kind of like, doesn't believe any of things.
Speaker A:Like, how would I.
Speaker A:Why would I believe anything you're telling me?
Speaker A:This is very far fetched.
Speaker A:And then they're like, believe me, because of this.
Speaker A:Here's this rift.
Speaker A:Look at the rift.
Speaker B:Also, you live in a world where you're fighting angels.
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker B:So I think you probably believe some of this.
Speaker B:But also, here is our shiny rift in his proof.
Speaker B:And so go there back to the bunker.
Speaker B:We're now like, Gabriel is back to a sane version of Gabriel, but he's just being overwhelmed with information.
Speaker B:And Cass is now telling him, wait, there's more.
Speaker B:And now he gets to find out that there's an Apocalypse Michael that wants to come and destroy this world.
Speaker B:And they need his help to help fight him.
Speaker B:But Gabriel not down.
Speaker B:He's grateful for the rescue and this redemption arc, but he's not a team, guys.
Speaker B:And he gonna bounce because this has been the opposite of fun.
Speaker A:Yeah, I don't think that's the reaction they were expecting.
Speaker A:And.
Speaker A:And he's like, yeah, last time the world was ending, I put my money on you so you can pull it off again.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:And Sam's begging.
Speaker B:Cass is mad.
Speaker B:You know, you can't turn back on your back on your father.
Speaker B:Father's creation.
Speaker B:And Gabriel points out that's exactly what God did.
Speaker B:And that he's got to run in the family.
Speaker B:Oh, that's how.
Speaker B:Yeah, your family's kind of shitty there, Gabriel.
Speaker B:So we go from that to Apocalypse World.
Speaker B:So this is, you know, 24 hours is up.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker B:And so this rift is closing.
Speaker B:Dean is like, all right, I'm gonna go through the rift.
Speaker B:But Catch wants to say, yeah, so.
Speaker A:Does Charlie, and so does she.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:And Catch is like, yeah, go get Sam, Go get Gabriel, get the Navy SEALs, if you can, while we figure things out here.
Speaker A:And then we can get all the intel we can.
Speaker A:And then when you come back, we can go rescue your mom and Jack.
Speaker A:Which is actually not a terrible plan, conceptually.
Speaker B:Conceptually.
Speaker B:I mean, I don't know, like.
Speaker B:Because that's what.
Speaker B:They should have jumped in the rift the first place.
Speaker B:They should have, like, figured this stuff out a little bit more.
Speaker B:Because is.
Speaker B:You know, so the rift is closing.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:And Charlie's like, I'm staying, too.
Speaker A:This is my home.
Speaker A:And if you got.
Speaker A:If you figure out how to take down Michael, come back and do it.
Speaker A:So Dean's gonna run through the rift, right.
Speaker A:As our commander and other soldiers are coming up on Catch and Charlie.
Speaker A:And we get shooting.
Speaker B:No.
Speaker B:So in the bunker, the rift closes, and Dean is Jack and Mary List because they weren't with Michael anymore.
Speaker B:Anymore is what he explains.
Speaker B:Explains the Catch.
Speaker B:And now Charlie stayed back to font try and find them.
Speaker B:Sam's like, charlie, what the what?
Speaker B:I was so confused.
Speaker B:How are all these same people over in that world?
Speaker B:And Dean sees the mess, and he's like, what did I miss?
Speaker A:Like, a demon incursion led by Asmodeus.
Speaker A:And Dean's like, what?
Speaker A:And they're like, yeah, Gabriel killed him.
Speaker A:And Dean's like, oh, yay.
Speaker A:Gabriel's back.
Speaker A:And they're like, oh, yeah.
Speaker A:No, he's.
Speaker A:He just left because we asked him to help him, and he said he had to help us, and he said no.
Speaker A:And Dean's like, okay, well, it sucks, but do we still have his grace?
Speaker A:And they're like, fun.
Speaker A:Fun fact.
Speaker A:No, we don't.
Speaker A:We gave it to him.
Speaker B:I mean, technically, it was kind of his in the first place, but, I mean.
Speaker B:I mean, the beans, though.
Speaker B:They can't open the door, right?
Speaker A:And Dean is pissed.
Speaker A:He is mad that he shouldn't have come back.
Speaker A:And says every time they come so close, it falls apart.
Speaker A:And Cass is trying to reassure that we will find Gabriel again.
Speaker A:And Dean said, we better.
Speaker B:And it ends.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:So now we don't have a thought.
Speaker B:So, yeah, we don't have a rift.
Speaker B:So before we enter our thoughts on.
Speaker B:On this episode 18 and people who were not brought back alive.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:So our cast casting couch.
Speaker B:It's the casting couch.
Speaker B:Were they on that show that time with that guy?
Speaker B:La la la la la la la la.
Speaker A:We've got our angel commander was played by Marco Grazini.
Speaker A:He's been in episode no Marco Grazini, episodes of Degrassi, the Next Generation, Beauty and the Beast, Heroes Reborn, the Flash, the Magicians, Killjoys, Series of Unfortunate Events, and a lot of Hallmark movies.
Speaker A:He's also a reoccurring character named Mike on Virgin River.
Speaker A:One of the other patrol angels is named is played by Corey Schmidt.
Speaker A:He's in a couple episodes of Supernatural, but he's also been in Once Upon a Time, My Zombie, Supergirl, and Van Helsing.
Speaker A:Our young priest was played by Curtis Tweety, and he's been in Izombie and Timeless.
Speaker A:Father Davis was played by Tim Beckman.
Speaker A:He's been in Good Doctor I, Zombie Riverdale.
Speaker A:He was Captain Antilles in Rogue One, the Star Wars Story, Captain Rawlings.
Speaker A:In the movie Midway.
Speaker A:Our possessed girl was played by Bianca Carolla Kuroka.
Speaker A:Excuse me.
Speaker A:And she's been in episodes of Lucifer, a few episodes of the Magicians, the Good Doctor, and Kung Fu.
Speaker A:And we didn't touch on him, but there was one demon that was in here that made an appearance, was played by Richard o'.
Speaker A:Sullivan.
Speaker A:He actually has a background as a dancer and choreographer for a lot of television.
Speaker A:And he was a dancer.
Speaker A:He was as an.
Speaker A:Appeared as an.
Speaker A: Appeared as a dancer in the: Speaker A:He was a choreographer in Britney Ever after as like, appeared as one.
Speaker A:And he's been in episodes of Izombie, Animal Control, and Nancy Drew.
Speaker A:Fun.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:So there we go.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:This was a interesting episode.
Speaker A:It was good.
Speaker A:I liked it in that it, like, drove story forward.
Speaker A:I like having Gabriel back as much as he's infuriating and it.
Speaker A:But I also.
Speaker A:It was a very frustrating episode as a fan and viewer, you know what I mean?
Speaker A:Like, where things go wrong, you're like, no,.
Speaker B:But there's also like, hey, here's Charlie back.
Speaker B:Like, you know, you thought we killed her off.
Speaker B:Surprise.
Speaker B:And this is the joy of Apocalypse World is that we do get to bring back.
Speaker B:We have the supernatural.
Speaker B:Another supernatural reason for bringing things back from the dead.
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker A:Instead of just bringing them back from the dead.
Speaker A:There's.
Speaker A:There's.
Speaker A:This existed instead of.
Speaker B:Instead of Necronomic, you know, raising them.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Necromancy style, you know, it's a different way of doing and bringing.
Speaker B:Bringing.
Speaker B:Bringing actors back and bringing characters back, too.
Speaker A:Right, right.
Speaker B:And it goes into the.
Speaker B:This Whole dichotomy of what's the difference between Apocalypse World Charlie and Earth Charlie.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:How similar are they?
Speaker B:How different are they?
Speaker B:And that's like a weird psychological.
Speaker A:Yeah, because experience is different.
Speaker A:Yeah, yeah, exactly.
Speaker A:The nature versus nurture and how they end up the same and things like that.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So there's a lot of things you can explore with there, I think.
Speaker A:Yeah, for sure.
Speaker A:And I'm glad we revisited Lucifer.
Speaker A:I feel like we kind of had not touched on him in a couple episodes and now we kind of are back to like, okay, what the going on in heaven.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:He's.
Speaker A:He's it up.
Speaker A:That's what he's doing by not doing anything, I guess, is kind of what he's doing.
Speaker A:But.
Speaker B:Yeah, but now he's gonna lose heaven and he didn't do anything with it because that's, you know, he didn't have a plan.
Speaker B:And I mean, also, I mean, what are you gonna do with it?
Speaker B:Why are you not making more angels?
Speaker A:It says he can't, you know, you can't.
Speaker B:So what are you doing?
Speaker B:So you should do something else.
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker A:Other than playing.
Speaker B:I would be concerned that I would be finding a way to make more angels.
Speaker B:I would be concerned.
Speaker B:Or, you know, like, does that mean you can't make more demons?
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:Are they made the same way?
Speaker B:No, but it's just weird that you can keep making demons if you can't make more angels.
Speaker B:Does that mean there's going to be a surplus of demons?
Speaker A:Maybe.
Speaker A:Seems like.
Speaker A:It seems like a supply problem.
Speaker A:For sure.
Speaker B:For sure.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:But yeah, it's interesting.
Speaker A:And then you don't trust, like, Catch.
Speaker A:Seems like he's not being a total dick, but you also just can't trust him.
Speaker B:You can never trust him for, you know, that's absolutely.
Speaker B:You can't trust.
Speaker A:That's one concept.
Speaker A:Never trust Catch.
Speaker A:So.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:What do you.
Speaker A:What.
Speaker A:What did anything that you walked away with this time that you hadn't thought about or no new.
Speaker A:Or just that you're like.
Speaker A:I know you're excited about Charlie, so.
Speaker B:No, I was excited about Charlie.
Speaker B:And there was something that I forgot about.
Speaker B:Well.
Speaker B:Oh.
Speaker B:Oh, it's that in my mind we saw the.
Speaker B:What happened in the.
Speaker B:In the span when Gabriel was often Monte Carlo with the porn stars.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:In my mind, that was a thing that happened.
Speaker B:Like there was a flashback to, like, him there, you know, and the whole, like, what he was doing and.
Speaker B:But that didn't Happen.
Speaker B:That was just something in my brain I made up, which is sometimes interesting.
Speaker B:You know, what we do.
Speaker B:What we do.
Speaker B:Yeah, I think it's kind of fun.
Speaker B:But yeah, we're almost through the end of.
Speaker B:Of this season, which is, you know, which means, you know, are we through almost three with Apocalypse World?
Speaker B:You know, is that gonna.
Speaker B:Are we gonna come out of that?
Speaker B:And at least they changed the aesthetic of it this time.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:So it wasn't as gray.
Speaker B:At least the.
Speaker B:The snow changing it to snow changes it from gray to white.
Speaker B:So it's at least as visually not as.
Speaker B:It's not as depressing.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:The snow was more just as depressing to me because I don't like the cold.
Speaker A:I was like, oh, it looks awful.
Speaker A:Were they dressed for that?
Speaker A:I guess they were.
Speaker B:They've got flannels.
Speaker B:Everyone's always got a flannel.
Speaker A:That's not enough.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:But also Dean was.
Speaker B:Was.
Speaker B:He's not expecting to like, jump.
Speaker B:Like, he never had, like, doesn't have the right jacket for snow, for walking in snow.
Speaker B:Like, he doesn't have, you know, he doesn't have good socks on.
Speaker B:They're gonna get wet.
Speaker B:You know, he's been.
Speaker B:Steve's boots are going to be wet.
Speaker B:His pants are going to be wet.
Speaker B:He's going to get hypothermia.
Speaker B:It's just not going to end well.
Speaker B:He's not made for.
Speaker B:For winter.
Speaker B:Winter soldiering.
Speaker A:No.
Speaker A:No, he doesn't pack well.
Speaker A:We know this.
Speaker A:They never have go bags ready.
Speaker A:Come on.
Speaker B:Well, that's.
Speaker B:You know what's really super frustrating about this.
Speaker B:If Dean had had it jump through the first.
Speaker B:You know, if you just waited a couple of days waiting for cast, maybe.
Speaker B:I mean, granted, like, we wouldn't.
Speaker B:He would have missed Charlie, I guess if he.
Speaker B:If he had waited, you know, I guess.
Speaker B:Timeline.
Speaker B:Yeah, But.
Speaker A:But will it matter if they, you know, they gotta figure out how to get back?
Speaker A:Yeah, I'm sure they will.
Speaker A:I mean, the season's not over, but I'm just saying he doesn't know that.
Speaker B:No.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker B:And the question is, you know, how much do you just need like a little bit of grace?
Speaker B:And so can they also bring back to fight looking for Lucifer too?
Speaker B:Like, do you just need like a little bit?
Speaker B:Because it seems like you just need a little bit.
Speaker B:So you don't.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Why did you use it all every time?
Speaker A:Like, was there.
Speaker A:It doesn't.
Speaker A:Did it have like a distinct measurement or just grace?
Speaker B:It didn't seem like it.
Speaker A:I know.
Speaker A:So this recipe seems very not specific.
Speaker B:It's.
Speaker B:It's not baking.
Speaker A:It's cooking, but it's cooking.
Speaker B:Sure.
Speaker B:All right, cheers.
Speaker A:Cheers.
